This ethereal view of the Twelve Apostles was taken before sunrise. It shows how one of the pillars the closest one has now fallen, and is just a scattering of rubble. In the foreground, on the sand, there are long lines like scratches: they are the tracks left by fairy penguins, heading out to sea for a days fishing. Arriving very early for this shot, we had been privileged to watch the march of these penguins in the half light of dawn. How comical they looked as they plunged into the waves in droves. By the time this photo was taken they were gone, and the scene was flooded with beautiful morning light.
